Benelli 828U Steel O/U Shotgun

Benelli, one of the top names in quality shotguns, has upgraded the famed 828U series shotgun with the 828U Steel model in 12- and 20-gauge. This Benelli 828 O/U shotgun takes the classic styling with engineering advancements for the updated series.

The 828U Steel series takes the original innovation from the 828U series, replacing the aluminum lock plate with a steel version. The lock plate locks to the back of the barrel to keep the shotshell pressure in place and prevent its transfer to the receiver. This helps eliminate wear and tear on the receiver and hinge that is found in traditional O/U shotguns, according to Benelli.

Benelli has upgraded its offerings to include the 828U Steel O/U shotgun. The 828U Steel replaces the traditional aluminum lock plate with a more durable steel plate. The extra weight helps with the overall balance of the shotgun along with better sweeps between cross shots. (Photo credit: Benelli)

The swap to steel does add some weight to the shotgun over the traditional 828U model, but that weight helps with the recoil that is experienced with higher loads. The weight also gives a slightly better balance for smoothing swings between cross shots.

Another piece that puts the 828U Steel at the top is the Benelli Surface Treatment, or B.E.S.T., that the barrels, receiver, and lock plate receive. The proprietary coating gives heightened corrosion and abrasion resistance that reportedly makes the shotgun impervious to harsh environments. The Benelli 828U Steel is at home as a mantle piece with its satin walnut stock and forend, satin receiver, and gloss barrels, that can also withstand the harsh fields for years to come.

The 828U Steel also features Benelli’s Progressive Comfort System. It is all contained within the walnut stock and uses three-stage recoil buffers that engage under progressively harder recoil that mitigates it to comfortable levels in loads from match light to magnum shotshell loads.

Contained in the barrel are the impulse-activated ejectors for a simple yet strong system. The design helps keep the receiver more streamlined eliminating the need for linkages between the removable trigger group and the forend.

The Benelli 828U Steel is chambered for 2 ¾- and 3-inch shotshells for both 12- and 20-gauge. Benelli offers 26-,28-, and 30-barrel options, and Crio-treated chocks in C, IC, M, IM, and F types are included from the factory. The 12-gauge 828U Steels weigh less than 8 lbs while the 20-gauges are under 7 lbs. The MSRP for the Benelli 828U Steel shotgun is $3,399.

Uberti is well known for producing classic single-action revolvers, western heritage black powder revolvers, and historical rifles harkening back to the days of cowboys. Their Model 1866 Yellowboy Deluxe is a perfect example of the company’s dedication to quality and strict adherence to classic designs.

This rifle is based on the Uberti 1866 Yellowboy short rifle. It’s a deluxe model with a 20-inch octagonal barrel and nicely crafted A-grade walnut stock and forend. The feature that stands out the most on the Yellowboy Deluxe is the engraving work which is done with incredible attention to detail. The brass was engraved by famed Italian engraver Atélier Giovanelli who skillfully decorated the receiver with classically inspired acanthus-leaf motifs. There’s also a bugling elk depicted as well as an escutcheon that is left blank so it can be engraved with the owner’s initials, should the owner choose to take their rifle in for engraving. The Model 1866 features a “closed top” design which left room for a floral engraving. The ejection port is, of course, open and not engraved.

SHOT 2023: Shadow Systems Thread-On Compensator

When your pistol is capable of flatter shooting, improved accuracy is a typical result. Everything is better, from target acquisition to follow-up shots to comfort. And, of course, there’s greater precision. The Shadow Systems Thread-On Compensator is designed to make your Shadow Systems 9mm pistol do all those things. Using a compensator such as this one is a great way to improve the overall performance of your handgun whether you’re using it at the range or for defense purposes.

The Thread-On Compensator is designed to be compatible with many of their 9mm pistols with threaded barrels. It is made for a seamless fit with the gun’s slide for aesthetic purposes and to reduce the risk of snagging. It’s compatible with the company’s MR920, DR920, and XR920 pistol lines and, in fact, fits all models of these platforms, such as the Elite, Combat, War Poet, and Foundation Series.

This compensator is created to significantly improve shot times from the first shot to follow-ups. Once the compensator is properly installed, shooters feel less recoil, which also means a more comfortable live-fire experience.

It also has a conservative port size for reliability with full-powered ammunition. The top-side single port also reduces muzzle blast to the sides which makes it more firing-line friendly. It’s meant to work with a standard factory-weight recoil spring in compatible models, however, a lighter 15-pound spring is also available.

Walker’s has been leading the way in the design and production of quality hearing protection for two decades. The company states they’re taking another leap forward for gun owners with the release of their latest product, Disrupter electronic earbuds.

The Disrupter is a set of individual earbuds made to protect the wearer’s hearing by canceling sounds at dangerous levels, such as the noise of gunfire. In addition to their noise canceling abilities, these earbuds can also enhance the sounds the wearer needs to hear around them as well as clarify audio from a cell phone or similar device thanks to Bluetooth connectivity. Walker’s says the Disrupter is a totally comprehensive solution for noise protection and sound enhancement.

The Disrupter includes not one but four new technologies for superior performance:

  • Forward Focus Mode: Two microphones are located in each earbud so the user can enhance sounds originating in front of them while simultaneously minimizing peripheral noise. This feature is especially handy when doing something like shooting steel at long ranges.
  • 360 Directional Sound: Those microphones deliver 360° directional audio, meaning the wearer can tell where a sound is coming from. This is a fantastic feature for hunters or those in high-noise outdoor work.
  • ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) Technology: Designed to reduce unwanted background noise, and improve the wearer’s ability to concentrate on the task at hand while delivering an improved listening experience.
  • Rapid Impulse Cancellation (IC): This new IC technology delivers incredibly fast reaction time, dampening harmful noise levels to ensure the best possible hearing protection.
