SIG Sauer P320 X-Ten: Finally, a 10mm P320

The much-talked-about Sig Sauer P320 X-Ten has finally been officially announced. There’s no denying the rampant popularity of the original P320 platform, which is a 9mm, and now Sig will be offering that model chambered in the harder-hitting 10mm.

The P320 X-Ten has a number of features specific to supporting its larger caliber and is being marketed to hunters and self-defense shooters alike.

Sig Sauer released the following information about the P320 X-Ten:

The latest addition to the SIG P320 family brings all of the features of the XSeries into a carry style handgun in 10mm for shooters and hunters looking for performance to the power of 10. The P320-XTEN comes standard with a 5” bull barrel, Xray3 day/night sights, and an XSeries optic-ready slide with front and rear serrations.  For those looking for even more precision, every P320-XTEN is optic ready and compatible with the SIG SAUER ROMEO2 reflex optic which is designed to withstand the abuse the 10mm cartridge delivers.  To reduce the recoil, a completely redesigned XSeries polymer grip module provides a strong purchase and stippled finish and makes shooting comfortable for any type of round.  Each P320-XTEN comes standard with two 15-rd magazines. The new SIG P320-XTEN takes performance to the power of 10.

As with any firearm, you are responsible for every shot fired, and as long as you adhere to the four safety rules, you’ll be fine. The P320 X-Ten is a fantastic tip of the hat to the usefulness and versatility of the 10mm cartridge and the gun’s bull barrel and fully textured grip make it clear the gun is meant for serious use.

Mossberg MC2c Optic Ready Pistol

When Mossberg got back to creating and producing pistols, it was great news for gun lovers everywhere. Not only is their pistol line innovative and well-made, it’s had regular additions of reliable, quality guns that are ideal for self-defense use. And there’s something for red dot lovers, too: The Mossberg Optic Ready MC2c (compact) pistol.

The Mossberg MC2c Optic Ready pistol has a removable slide plate so red dot sights can easily be mounted to the gun. (Photo credit: Mossberg)

Mossberg released the following information about their new optics-ready MC2c:

Mossberg has redesigned their MC2c (compact) 9mm pistol with an optic-ready slide that allows for the direct mounting of micro-dot optics (Shield RMS footprint) and increased capacity with its double-stack magazines. The MC2c Optic Ready pistol comes with a 14-round flush and 16-round extended magazine, and available models include a standard version with white 3-dot sights; an option with TRUGLO Tritium Pro Night Sights, and standard version with reversible cross-bolt safety. A 10-round standard version, which includes two 10-round magazines, is available for areas where magazine capacity is restricted.

The MC2c features a 3.9-inch barrel and has an overall length of 7.10 inches; surprisingly-slim width of 1.10 inches; height of 4.90 inches; and weighs in at 21 ounces (unloaded). Other standard features include dovetail-mounted, low-profile white 3-dot sights (drift adjustable); stainless steel barrel with cut-broached rifling, 1-in-16twist rate, and black DLC finish; front accessory rail; oversized trigger guard; and flat-profile trigger with integrated blade safety, reduced overtravel, and approximate 5.5-pound trigger pull weight.

And now, integrated into the MC2c slide is a removable plate which allows for direct mounting of an optic (Shield RMS footprint) that facilitates co-witness with the white 3-dot sights. Compared to standard sights, an optic-equipped pistol offers increased accuracy and speed and will provide a much easier time employing the sight for shooters with older or ailing eyes.

The days where it was the exception rather than the rule to see a red dot sight on the firing line are long past. Today, it’s extremely common for red dots to be present on each and every pistol. The thing about RDS is that if your pistol is not optics ready, you’ll have to find the correct mounting plate that fits both your gun and the RDS itself. An optics-ready pistol like the Mossberg MC2c is a solid option for gun owners who are serious about self-defense and prefer an RDS be mounted to their daily carry gun.

Maxim Defense DSX-D: Duty Suppressor System

The DSX-D Duty Suppressor System from Maxim Defense was built to optimize quiet performance in a suppressed weapon system. It provides superior direct thread suppression to weapons chambered in 5.56, 7.62, and 6.5 Creedmoor.

The Maxim Defense DSX-D suppressor was built to optimize quiet performance in a suppressed weapon system. It reportedly provides superior direct thread suppression to weapons chambered in 5.56, 7.62, and 6.5 Creedmoor.

Duty is built for the world’s most rigorous demands, according to Maxim. This suppressor is designed to be the most robust and strongest suppressor in the category. It has been repeatedly tested with SOCOM tables across various calibers and barrel lengths, down to 8.5″ 5.56 NATO with M855 ball ammunition. It has survived with no damage or significant changes in sound reduction.

Maxim Defense DSX-D: Duty Suppressor System

The DSX-D Duty Suppressor was explicitly designed to minimize the violent cyclic rate and gas blowback of a suppressed weapon system like the AR15.

DSX-D Suppressor thread on
Made of military-grade Grade-5 Titanium and 17-4 Stainless Steel, the DSX-D Direct thread suppressor is rated for full-auto fire in all available calibers, with certain barrel restrictions, and only weighs 21 ounces.

The suppressor consists of a three-piece MonoKore design that adds 7.25″ to the muzzle of the rifle. It is rated for full-auto (with an 8.5″ barrel restriction) in 5.56mm, 7.62mm, and 6.5 Creedmoor. According to Maxim, it is purposefully built for each available caliber and ships with direct thread mounts for both 5.56mm (1/2×28) and 7.62mm (5/8×24).

DSX-D Direct Thread Suppressor Technical Specs

  • Available Calibers: 5.56mm, 7.62mm, 6.5mm
  • Diameter: 1.75″ outer diameter
  • Material Composition: Grade-5 Titanium, 17-4 SS
  • Weight: 21 oz
  • Length: 7.9″ overall length
  • Finish: Cerakote DLC (Diamond-like coating)
  • Available in black, gray, or FDE.

The DSX-D increased reliability and longevity with the host firearms, thanks in large part to low gas blowback and low gain in the host weapon cyclic rate compared to other more traditional suppressor designs. The suppressor also decreases flash and recoil while increasing accuracy.

Monokore system for DSX-D suppressor
The three-piece design including the Monokore helps aid in easy disassembly by the end-user while the integrated carbon cutters on the core help in tube cleaning. As an added perk, common tools are used for disassembly.

According to Maxim Defense, the suppressor drops sound to well below hearing safe levels, with specific reduction amounts contingent on the weapon configuration, ammunition used, barrel length, and weather conditions. An example of one such reading is the average measurement per MILSTD-1474D of 134dB on a 10.3″ AR-15 chambered in 5.56 measured at the shooter’s left ear.

The DSX-D is fully and easily serviceable by the end-user and comes apart using common tools. Additionally, the core is designed to include carbon cutters to aid in tube cleaning.

Available color choices
The Direct thread DSX-D suppressor from Maxim adds 7.9” to the barrel of the host weapon and can be pinned on to reach the 16” barrel length requirement. The suppressor is available in black, gray, or FDE in Cerakote DLC (Diamond-like coating).

DSX-D Direct Thread Suppressor Features

  • State-of-the-art MonoKore design.
  • Simple 3-piece design.
  • Military-grade materials.
  • Adds 7.25″ to the muzzle.
  • Purposefully built for each available caliber
  • The suppressor core has integrated carbon cutters for tube cleaning
  • Full auto rated in all available calibers, 8.5″ barrel restriction
  • It can be pinned to a 10.3″ barrel to effect a 16″ overall barrel length
  • Ships with direct thread mount
  • Secondary retention feature for the suppressor tube.

Apex Polymer Gen 3/4 Glock Trigger Kit

One of the easiest changes to make to your factory gun, or really any gun, is swapping out the trigger. Aftermarket triggers are widely available for a variety of guns, so there are a lot of options. If you have a Glock, you’ve probably at least considered changing the trigger, but if it’s a Gen 3 or Gen 4 it might seem like your choices are somewhat limited. That’s where Apex Tactical Specialties comes in with their Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glock trigger kit.

The Apex Tactical Specialties Polymer Action Enhancement Kit for Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks is an aftermarket trigger upgrade worth checking out. (Photo credit: Apex Tactical Specialties)

Apex Tactical Specialties released the following details regarding their Polymer Action Enhancement Kit for Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks:

Offered with a Black, FDE, Red, Purple or Blue polymer trigger body mounted to an Apex Gen 3 style trigger bar, the new kit delivers the same great performance that has made Apex the top-selling aftermarket trigger upgrade for most Glock models. When installed the kit will reduce trigger pull weight by approximately 1.0 lb., reduces pre-travel, overall and reset distance and provides a smooth uptake with a crisp trigger break.

This new kit is for use in the following Gen 3 & 4 Glock pistols: G17, G17L, G19, G22, G23, G24, G26, G27, G31, G32, G33, G34, G35, G37, G38 and G39.

There are myriad reasons why it’s a good idea to upgrade the trigger in your Glock. Factory triggers on all guns have a tendency to be lacking when it comes to how smooth and consistent the pull is and what pull weight the manufacturer has it set for at the factory. If you want a smoother, crisper, lighter trigger, aftermarket replacements are an excellent plan.

Apex Tactical Specialties is well-known for producing good triggers and their Polymer Action Enhancement Kit promises to stand up to their history of success. The kit reduces trigger pull weight by one pound compared to the standard factory pull weight of Glocks and delivers a crisp, clean break with a short re-set. Putting an Apex Tactical Specialties trigger in your Gen 3 or Gen 4 Glock is a great way to improve trigger control and accuracy.

SIG Sauer RomeoZero Pro Red Dot Sight

It used to be that seeing a red dot sight on the firing line in a handgun class was the exception rather than the rule. But those days have passed. Today, it’s extremely common for gun owners to put red dots on their carry and range guns. Red dots aren’t just for hunters or competition shooters anymore. Many gun makers are delving into the red dot market, including Sig Sauer, a respected firearms manufacturer whose years of experience go into designing quality optics. Their latest is the Sig Sauer RomeoZero Pro.

Sig Sauer made the following statement regarding the RomeoZero Pro:

This new full-size reflex optic features a large 30mm aspherical lens made of scratch-resistant glass, offering unmatched clarity and a distortion-free sight picture when compared to competitors. The ROMEOZero-PRO features a proprietary carbon-infused polymer housing with a reinforced lens protection area making it incredibly durable while delivering significant drop and impact protection. It also comes with a hardened steel protective shroud for even greater protection and durability. The ROMEOZero-PRO is available with either a 10 MOA red dot or the versatile new circle/dot reticle. The new T.A.P. (Touch-Activated Programming) technology gives the user the ability to change brightness with just a tap on the optic.  All rear surfaces of the housing have anti-reflection grooves molded in, including the backup rear sight notch which is marked with Grade A Swiss SuperLuminova pigment for visibility in dark environments.  And just like our smaller ROMEOZero and ROMEOZero-ELITE models, the new ROMEOZero-PRO is fully assembled in the U.S.A. in our state-of-art facility in Oregon.

Marlin Model 1895 Trapper – The Mag Life

Whether you’re a fan of levers or not, there’s no denying the beauty of a nicely designed lever-action rifle. You also have to admit the launch of modern levers based on classic styles is a fantastic blend of the past and future, and Ruger is proving it by re-introducing the Marlin Firearms Model 1895 Trapper. This rifle isn’t just a re-launch of a classic, it’s destined to become a classic in its own right.

Ruger has this to say about it:

The Marlin 1895 Trapper was conceived by hunting and fishing guides in Alaska who needed a big-bore rifle that was short, quick-handling and optimized for hunting or protection from dangerous animals. Chambered in .45-70 Govt., this latest Marlin offering from Ruger features a 16.17”, cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:20” twist. The threaded barrel (11/16”-24), comes with a match-polished thread protector and will accommodate common muzzle devices.

The stainless steel receiver, lever, magazine tube and barrel feature an attractive non-glare, satin finish – as do all of the small, nickel-plated parts. The bolt is spiral-fluted and nickel-plated for an attractive appearance and very smooth cycling.

  • Adjustable Skinner Sights peep sights for rapid target acquisition
  • Improved stock finish and checkering for a better grip with wet hands
  • Refined, streamlined stock and forend for maneuverability and aesthetic purposes
  • Threaded barrel with factory-installed thread protector
  • The location of manufacture on the barrel now reads “Mayodan, NC.”
  • A new “RP” proof mark is located on the left side of the firearm.
  • Ruger-made Marlin rifles begin with the serial prefix of “RM.”
  • The traditional black and white Marlin bullseye located on the rifle stock is now red and white.
  • Marlin Horse and Rider logo laser engraved on the grip.

The Marlin Firearms Model 1895 Trapper is a carbine-length, lever-action gun with a 5 +1 capacity. It’s chambered in 45-70 Government and designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and a reliable performer. Some changes have been made to the gun with this re-introduction by Ruger, but they all appear to be excellent improvements. According to Ruger, the Trapper was designed to tighter tolerances and was put through multiple layers of quality control including accuracy audits and numerous inspections.
